For 35 years, City School has offered semestered courses at the Academic, University and College level. New this year is our Environmental Activism and Community Leadership program that starts in Grade 9; it is tied to our status as an EcoSchool with Platinum status.
City is a haven for the creative, motivated and socially-minded student, and a lively alternative to the mainstream. The focus of our school is ethical citizenship. We're a compassionate community; our members are involved and evolving. Together.
Despite our small size, we offer a spectrum of courses in the Humanities, Mathematics, Arts, and Sciences. In addition to our core academic program, we provide practical courses that reflect student interest, such as Life Strategies, Nutrition and Guitar. Our courses are enriched by field trips, guest speakers and experiential learning opportunities.
Our on-site staff consists of six teachers, an Office Adminsitrator, a part-time Social Worker, and an Itinerant Special Education Resource Teacher (IRT). Among the six staff are an on-site administrative representative (CL) and a Guidance Counselor.
City School is at the base of Bathurst Street in a beautiful setting. Classrooms look out over Lake Ontario, the Toronto Islands and the downtown skyline. We share our building with the Waterfront School and the Harbourfront Community Centre; we have access to its large gym, dance studio, and cafe. The TTC provides frequent service to our location, whether from Union, Spadina or Bathurst stations. Bicyclists can take the Martin Goodman Trail right to our door. There is no car parking on site. But bikes are very welcome!
