City School is an alternative high school that offers a variety of semestered Grade 11 and 12 University and College courses. It is ideal for the creative, independent thinker who values community and enjoys working with others. The welcoming atmosphere, engaging courses, flexible approaches to learning, and small size make City a lively alternative to mainstream high schools. As well, we are proud to be an EcoSchool with Platinum status.
Despite our small size, we cover a wide range of courses in the Humanities, Mathematics, Arts, and Sciences. In addition to our core academic program, we offer practical courses that reflect student interests and contemporary trends: Life Strategies, Exercise Science, Nutrition, Guitar, Media Studies, Writer's Craft, Environmental Studies, and Earth & Space Science.
All courses are enriched by field trips, guest speakers and activities that bring the various disciplines together and provide students with hands-on, experiential and relevant learning opportunities. Most of our graduates go on to university; many pursue careers in the media.
City School is at the foot of Bathurst Street in one of the most beautiful settings in Toronto. Classrooms look out onto Lake Ontario, the Toronto Islands and the downtown skyline. We share our building with the Waterfront School and the Harbourfront Community Centre. This alliance provides us access to a modern, full-size gym, dance studio, games room, and cafe that sells fresh, locally-sourced food.
The TTC provides frequent service to our location, whether from the Union Station LRT or the Bathurst bus. Bicyclists can take the Martin Goodman Trail right to our door. There is no car parking on site. But bikes are very welcome!
